What’s your path?

Recently, an 11-year boy shared his story with me:

In a creative writing class his friend had a habit of journaling about violent scenarios, replicating video game excursions. It was exciting, sickly entertaining and there really was no limit to how graphic and vicious the descriptions could get…. Hey, it’s just creative writing! So He chose to ride the wave, and similarly let his imagination go wild as he expounded upon his own brutal video game adventures. The teacher reviewed the writing and finding it very disturbing called a parent/student conference to discuss the content. Naturally, this negative attention and the consequences that followed turned something once fun turn into something rather painful. So how did this all impact him?

Wonderfully, because it gave him a chance to reflect and become aware of his choices…. even the little ones, and at a young age, take responsibility for his path. He realized that what he puts into his consciousness affects him and in a society where excessive input (on many levels) is the norm, readily available and not always healthy, he actually has to a lot of decisions to take… daily.

Ultimately, he decided to give up aggressive video games… as well as finding entertainment in violent expressions…. and selected friends who enjoyed more light and joyful forms of connecting…. as was aligned to his essential nature and decision to be happy.

And now for another point of consideration: Newton's Laws: For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction-Basically, it’s impossible for an action to not be answered by a response, whether one notices it or not.

And: In the absence of external force, a mass remains at rest, or just continues to move in a straight line. To truly change the trajectory that a mass is moving in- it requires actual energy.

So according to Newton, small details and little things do make a difference.

We all have so many choices every day. Little decisions in how we drive our life, supporting healthy habits or unhealthy ones, that create the trajectory of our life.

Life is precious: What’s your path?
